Every year in Dentistry magazine, FMC creates the Dentistry Top 50 – a list of the most influential people in the field, as voted for by readers. This year, I am delighted to be able to say that the 2017 winner is none other than Milad Shadrooh!

Also known as The Singing Dentist, Milad has been a close friend and presenter of our Smilelign Essentials seminar for several years...and was also present to cut the ribbon at our grand laboratory opening late last year.

I first got to know Milad when he started using the lab for Sleepwell (anti-snoring device) and SCi splints for bruxism. Milad then contacted us about Smilelign for his wife (then fiancée) who was looking for a solution to fix the alignment of her teeth in time for their wedding. Virtually invisible to the eye, Smilelign consists of a series of aligners that are designed to be worn for three to four weeks at a time. Thankfully, her treatment was straightforward, and she was married with the smile she had always wanted - happy days! I can proudly say Milad has worked with Smilelign ever since.

It has been great to watch his popularity grow - he is a highly influential figure online, where his parody videos of well-known songs featuring dental health messages have been shared by thousands, particularly the younger generations.

He also conducts a live chat on Facebook every Tuesday (or #toothsday) where he answers people’s questions about their teeth, offering explanations and advice. This is done out of practice hours and shows Milad’s enthusiasm for helping people – and their teeth!

A key advocate for the importance of oral hygiene, Milad’s videos not only provide the fun factor, they educate those at a critical age on the advantages of looking after teeth. Thanks to him, dentistry has never been such an ‘in’ subject on social media!

His videos, along with his charity work for Great Ormond Street and Southampton Hospital (where he raised a combined amount of over £6500!), are what makes him such an influential person in his field.

Milad - congratulations from everyone at S4S & Smilelign – a win that is thoroughly deserved!
