24.10.05 - Snorers urged to check if their condition is more serious
As part of Sleep Disturbance Week which starts on 24th October, snoring consultation service, www.Solutions4Snoring.com is offering Britain’s millions of snorers a free online check-up1 to see if their condition is actually a symptom of the more serious obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).
Matthew Hinckley, Chairman of www.solutions4snoring.com said, “People suffering from OSA can stop breathing up to 50-60 times an hour and then wake up feeling as if they have had no sleep at all. Snoring is the key symptom of OSA and I urge those people to complete our online test with their sleeping partner to see if they have this more serious condition”.
The questionnaire covers their general health, main complaints about their snoring habits and the symptoms they are experiencing. Their answers are then assessed using internationally recognised diagnostic protocols and the snorer is sent preliminary findings within 12 hours”.
OSA can put lives at risk, as many snorers suffer from excessive daytime sleepiness, making them unable to concentrate. This makes OSA sufferers at least twice as likely to have a motor accident if they are driving2. It is for this reason that the DVLA require OSA sufferers to stop driving until they are treated.
Research has further demonstrated that the repeated falls in oxygen levels in the blood caused by OSA are linked to the development of high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes and diabetes3.
The www.solutions4snoring.com online snoring assessment analyses the snorers’ condition within 24 hours.

- The test, which normally costs £9.50 plays an important role in deciding the most appropriate treatment option but is only available to people who are over 18 years old. This online test is for a limited period only – 24-30th October 2005.

Notes to Editors and Health Correspondents
Solutions 4 Snoring is committed to improving the quality of life for snorers and the people who suffer with them. S4S offer advice to healthcare professionals and patients, hold educational seminars, and have a programme of continuous research and development of new treatments.
Snorers are encouraged to have their sleeping partner with them while they answer the questions because the partner is better placed to confirm the severity of their snoring and snoring habits. There are also optional questions for partners to complete.
