Frankel's Functional Regulator is an activator particularly suitable in malocclusions of Class II at the age of growth. The Frankel use the natural growth spurt and shields from unwanted  forces, to encourage the top and bottom jaw to develop a more naturalposition. Its has shields to remove unwanted forces from the cheeks and labial shields to relieve pressure from the lips.

 

Rationale

  • Treatment of Class II Malocclusions
  • Increase arch width (encourage arch expansion by natural growth)
  • Class II div 2 cases can be treated
  • Class III cases treated with Reverse FRIII Design

Construction requirements

  1. Upper and lower impression in alginate to full Sulcus Depth
  2. Protrusive bite registration
  3. Projet Bite recorders can be used to make bite registration quicker and easier for the clinician and patient
  4. Study Models should be taken to for pre & post treatment records

Frankels less commonly prescribed functional orthodontic appliance in the UK, however they still remain popular within many UK teaching Hospitals. Frankels are made in our Orthodontic Laboratory Department by our highly skilled Dental technicians. There are thre main versions of the Frankel Appliance FR I, FR II and FR III
